NEW ATHLETE AGENT REGISTRATION FRAMEWORK ESTABLISHES ONE OF THE NATION'S MOST COMPREHENSIVE TRANSPARENCY INITIATIVES FOR PROFESSIONAL, COLLEGIATE AND HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (July 1, 2026) — As the national landscape surrounding Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) continues to evolve, Louisiana is taking a groundbreaking step to strengthen transparency, accountability and consumer protection for athlete representation.

Pursuant to Louisiana Senate Bill 389, signed into law on June 9, 2026, the Louisiana Department of Justice, under the leadership of Attorney General Liz Murrill, has partnered with NIL PreCheck™, powered by ADVANCE, as its exclusive athlete agent screening and agent certification partner to support implementation of the state's new athlete agent registration requirements.

Beginning July 1, 2026, athlete agents representing professional, collegiate and high school athletes in Louisiana may begin the registration process through the Louisiana Department of Justice's online registration portal. Under the new law, qualifying athlete agents must complete the required registration and onboarding process by August 1, 2026.

The initiative establishes one of the nation's most comprehensive athlete agent transparency frameworks by combining required registration with standardized background screening, onboarding, education and a publicly accessible directory designed to help athletes, families, educational institutions and sports organizations make more informed decisions when selecting representation.

Louisiana's implementation comes at a pivotal time for college athletics as policymakers across the country continue evaluating reforms designed to improve oversight, transparency and accountability throughout the rapidly evolving NIL ecosystem. Rather than simply establishing new statutory requirements, Louisiana has created an operational framework to support consistent implementation while promoting greater confidence among athletes and the broader sports community.

Louisiana is home to two major professional sports franchises, more than 20 NCAA member institutions across Divisions I, II and III, numerous junior colleges and one of the nation's strongest high school athletics landscapes. The statewide registration initiative establishes a consistent transparency framework designed to serve stakeholders across every level of sport.

Athlete agents seeking to represent athletes in Louisiana are encouraged to begin the registration process as soon as possible to ensure compliance before the August 1 deadline.
